Goethe-Institut
The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, active worldwide. It promotes the study of German abroad and encourages international cultural exchange. It also fosters knowledge about Germany by providing information on its culture, society and politics. The educational and training products enable mobility in an international learning community. With the network of Goethe-Instituts, Goethe Centers, cultural societies, reading rooms, libraries, and exam and language learning centers, it has played a central role in the cultural and educational policies of Germany for over 60 years. The Goethe-Institut encourages cultural collaboration across the globe by organizing programs or events and making contributions to various festivals and exhibitions in different fields. These projects strengthen the development of structures in civil society and foster worldwide mobility as well as exchange of best practices.
H401
H401 is a private foundation located in the Herengracht building of late artist Gisèle d’Ailly.
It is a place where research, art and dialogue come together to investigate the human condition with all its contradictions. The central question is how we as a society, organizations and individuals with layered pasts want to deal with the present and the future. We do this in collaboration with local and international partner institutions, with artists, thinkers, scholars and scientists. Academic and artistic research at H401 goes hand in hand with performative and participatory research, – with residences, exhibitions, events, think tanks and publications.
Human Platform (HP)
Human Platform (HP) unites professional associations and individuals working in the field of culture, education and social care. HP is dedicated to representing and protecting professional values, improving quality of life and fostering social solidarity. These goals are typically implemented through projects of its member organizations. In many cases, HP facilitates grassroots civic initiatives. Among them, the Internet-Tax protests, the Living Memorial and the Tanítanék teachers’ movement are prominent.
Living Memorial (LM) is named in the spirit of its initial concept: dead objects, sculptures, memorials, symbols cannot take over the tasks of preserving, sharing and transferring of memory. But the objects that carry stories, joyful or sad narratives can help in memory work. To realize this idea and to oppose the false official remembrance, the Living Memorial group invited people to place objects of personal memory at the location of the planned Monument of German occupation at Liberty Square, Budapest in 2014. We knew that the symbols will speak to the public if people accept to tell their stories and to listen to the stories of others. So, after the two symbolic white chairs we carried dozens of other chairs to the square, and started a series of public conversations, which still run.
Etz Hayyim Synagogue
Etz Hayyim Synagogue is the last remaining witness to 2,300 years of Jewish history on Crete and a testimony to the island’s multi-faith past at the intersection between Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Its founding director defined it as a “place of prayer, recollection and reconciliation” and it thus functions as an inclusive religious space, a historic site, a venue for cultural events and a research and educational institution. Its activities include religious services in the open spirit of Hellenistic Judaism, concerts, readings and lectures reflecting the Eastern Mediterranean heritage, guided tours for over 25,000 visitors every year, and exhibitions on intercultural themes and (Cretan) Jewish history as well as lectures for the general public and seminars for local schools. Etz Hayyim thus provides a unique opportunity to learn about the multi-faith history of Crete and has collaborated with various local and international associations in artistic and historical projects.
Timisoara European Capital of Culture Association
The vision of Timisoara European Capital of Culture Association is for Timisoara to become a pole of excellence in the Central European cultural space. Values : community participation and mobilization, openness to multiple cultures, valorization of multicultural potential, tradition, innovation and European dimension of Timisoara, transparency, inclusiveness, equal opportunities. The association is a non-governmental, apolitical, independent organization, with strong cultural and educational mission.
Its strategic directions:
- To actively stimulate participation, involvement, openness to dialogue between cultural, economic and social actors, decision-makers and citizens, to create conditions for a dynamic European Capital of Culture.
- To act that culture becomes a key component of local, regional and national development strategies.
- To advocate for protection, promotion and restoration of cultural heritage as a fundamental factor for our intercultural identity.
Culture Action Europe (CAE)
Culture Action Europe (CAE) is the only cross-sectoral network representing all sub-sectors in culture: performing arts, literature, visual arts, cross-arts initiatives, design, community centres etc. CAE is representing 80.000 voices of the cultural sector through its 145 members: 31 transnational networks, 33 national networks, 36 private and public organisations and 45 individual members. CAE aims at enhancing cooperation and exchange, engagement and a dialogue between various players across arts and policy sectors.
CAE’s mission is to put culture at the heart of public debate and decision-making by raising awareness of the contribution of culture to the development of sustainable and inclusive societies. Key activities include cross-sectoral conferences and workshops, aggregating and disseminating cross-sectoral knowledge, building the capacity of cultural operators and advocating for a better cultural policy for EU citizens and the cultural sector.
The European University Institute
The European University Institute is an academic institution, created in 1972 by the Member States of the founding European Communities. Its main objective is to provide advanced academic training to Ph.D students and to promote research at the highest level. It carries out research in a European perspective (fundamental research, comparative research and Community research) in history, law, economics, political and social science.
The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) is devoted to promote work on the major issues facing the process of integration and European society. Its main objectives are to produce research of the highest intellectual quality; to collaborate with other centres of research excellence; to provide opportunities for young scholars working in its key fields; and to promote dialogue with the world of practice. The Centre’s core administrative staff is experienced in co-ordinating and managing multi-disciplinary international projects.
